Thomas Markle Arrested on Sexual Abuse Allegations: What Happened?

Thomas Markle Sr., the father of Meghan Markle, was reportedly arrested by federal agents in Florida on Friday, November 6, 2026. According to the Associated Press, people familiar with the matter confirmed that he was taken into custody near Tampa over charges related to child sexual abuse material.

The arrest follows an investigation that attracted public attention in October 2026, when allegations emerged that material involving the sexual abuse of children had allegedly been discovered among belongings connected to Thomas Markle at his former residence in the Philippines.

The allegations reportedly came to light after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., said he discovered the material among boxes containing personal belongings and other items. He subsequently reported the matter to authorities, prompting an investigation by Philippine law enforcement.

Philippine officials confirmed that their anti-trafficking and online child sexual abuse investigation team was examining the allegations. The FBI also became involved in the matter, with international authorities reportedly cooperating as they examined the evidence.

Thomas Markle has strongly denied the accusations, describing them as false. It is important to distinguish between the allegations under investigation and any facts that may ultimately be established through legal proceedings.

A Justice Department official confirmed the arrest but did not initially provide details about the reason.

It was unclear whether formal charges had been filed at the time of its report. The Associated Press separately reported that the arrest was related to charges involving child sexual abuse material.
